Dr. James V. Kendall was mustered into
the U.S. service at Syracuse, NY September 18, 1862 under a commission
as Surgeon dated October 10, 1862, rank August 22, 1862. About
February 1, 1863, Dr. Kendall was detached for duty as chief medical
officer on the staff of General Greene commanding the 3rd Brigade at
Acquia Creek landing, Virginia and remained on duty in that
position to the close of the war, being mustered out with the
regiment as Surgeon and brevetted Lt. Colonel.

the time of entering the service to the close of the war with the
He was an excellent surgeon, skillful physician, a
kind and considerate officer, and when he retired from the service he
carried with him the kind wishes of the regiment, and the gratitude of all
its officers and men who had received treatment at his hands.
After the war Dr. Kendall was frequently honored by
his townspeople, had several terms in the Board of Supervisors,
represented his Assembly District for one or two terms in the New York
Legislature, and was a member of the Onondaga Medical Society, the New
York Central Medical Society, and the New York State Medical Society. |
