Ira B. Seymour was mustered into the U.S. service at Syracuse,
New York, September 18, 1862 at the age of 29 under a commission as Captain
dated October 4, 1862, rank September 5, 1862.
He was wounded in
the face slightly at Wauhatchie, Tennessee, October 29, 1863, and was detached
as Division Provost Marshal at Wauhatchie December 21, 1863.
He
mustered out with the Company as Captain. He received a commission as
Major dated June 7, 1864, rank same date, but not mustered. Brevetted
Lieutenant-Colonel.
