Oliver Ormsby

Oliver was born September 17, 1838 in Oswego ,New York, the son of
Marvin and Mary Ormsby. At the age of 12. he, his parents, and his three sisters moved to
a farm in Taunton at the intersection of Grand ave. and Fay road.
Enlisted Aug. 29, 1862; age 23, taken prisoner at Chancellorsville,
Va., May 3 1863, paroled and joined his company at Wauhatchie, Nov. 17 1863. Wounded in
the hip at Pine Mountain, Ga. June 15, 1864. Promoted to Corporal on Dec.31, 1864, and
present at final muster.
Oliver's wife was Sara Morgan, daughter of Lyman and Phobe Morgan,
whose home was in Little Canada near Central Square.
Phoebe had a sister Harriette, who married Edward Smith (supposed to
be related to the Morman Joseph Smith) Their Daughter was Harriette Smith Mills for whom
the Womens Building at the NY State Fair Grounds, was named.
Oliver and Sarah's children were Kittie Alice, Marvin, Mary Louise
and Chester Arthur.
Oliver Ormsby died at the age of 75 on August 20, 1913 at the
homestead in Taunton.
