Jacob Knapp

Jacob KnappJacob Knapp was mustered into U.S. service at Syracuse, NY, September 18, 1862, at the age of 25, under a commission as 2nd Lieutenant dated October 4, 1862.  Lieutenant Knapp was promoted to 1st  under a commission dated April 4, 1864, rank December 21, 1863, and promoted to Captain under a commission dated August 2, 1864, rank July 3, 1864.

Lieutenant Knapp was taken prisoner at Chancellorsville, CA, May 3, 1863 and was paroled and returned to the regiment at Ellis' Ford, VA, August 16, 1863.  Soon after his return he was detached, and for a long time afterwards was in command of the Brigade Pioneers Corps.

He was mustered as 1st Lieutenant at Stevenson, Alabama, about April 13, 1864, and as Captain at Atlanta, Georga, August 23, 1864, and mustered out of service with the company as Captain.  Brevetted major.
