Tuesday 23rd September 1862

left Camp White at 7 am. left Syracuse at 9 and arrived at Geneva at 2 pm. After a pleasant ride across the lake took cars for Elmira. Arrived at Elmira at 9 pm and stayed over night at the old barracks.

Wednesday 24th September 1862

Left Elmira at 2 PM on a cattle train bound for Baltimore.

Thursday 25th September 1862

On the road to Baltimore.

Friday 26th September 1862

Arrived at Baltimore at 2 am, and took breakfast at the Union Relief. Left Baltimore at 7 AM and arrived at Washington at 1 PM, had dinner at the Soldier's Relief. Left Washington at 5 PM and after crossing the Long Bridge we marched up on to Arlington Heights and after rolling ourselves up in our blankets we slept till the morning.

Saturday 27th September 1862

Wrote a letter home and then started for our new camp ground, cleared off the brush and stuck up our tents.

Sunday 28th September 1862

In the afternoon we grubbed stumps and changed our tents. We had our first regular rations today.

Monday 29th September 1862

We received our orders today. We are to march in the morning. Had our breakfast at 5, got started at 6 PM. and marched to Washington and took the cars for Frederick City, Maryland.

Tuesday 30th September 1862

Arrived at the relay house at daybreak, arrived at Frederick at 1 PM, stayed at the Relay House until 6 PM, then started for our camping ground which was just outside the city.
