Wednesday 1st April 1863

Company drill all morning and afternoon. Lieut. Covill in command.

Thursday 2nd April 1863

Had an inspection of knapsacks and clothing. All those who haden't knapsacks and government clothing had to take them. Got a camp kettle and washed my clothes. Received letters from Samual and Abel.

Friday 3rd April 1863

Company drill in the forenoon, battalion drill in the afternoon. Didn't feel well today and was excused from drill.

Saturday 4th April 1863

Pretty cold today. Wind blew from the north. Letter from Father.

Sunday 5th April 1863

It commenced snowing last night and snowed till noon. No inspection. President Lincoln went up on the cars. Wrote a letter home.

Monday 6th April

Company drill forenoon and afternoon. Grand review near the front by President Lincoln.

Tuesday 7th April 1863

Drilled forenoon and afternoon. Wrote Able and Samuel Today was pleasant with a cool wind.

Wednesday 8th April 1863

Drilled forenoon and afternoon. Read a letter from home.

Thursday 9th April 1863

Received orders to be ready for inspection by 8 o'clock. We fixed ourselves and waited all day but no inspection. Wrote to William Jones, Co A 110 N. Y. S. V.

Friday 10th April 1863

Started from Stafford Court House to be reviewed by President Lincoln. The review came at 4 PM. Got back to camp and was mustered in by Capt. Randall.

Saturday 11th April. !863

Had an inspection of arms on the flats by the old grist mill. Was inspected by one of Gen. Greens staff who said our regiment was the best of any he had inspected. [Letter]

Sunday 12th April 1863

Had an inspection of arms by Capt. Haskins of Co. H. The day was warm and pleasant.

Monday 13th April 1863

Company drill in the forenoon. Battalion drill in the afternoon.

Tuesday 14th April 1863

We have orders to march on a moments notice with 8 days rations. Drilled in the forenoon. No drill in the afternoon.

Wednesday 15th April 1863

It commenced to rain last night and rained hard all day today. Received a letter from home.

Thursday 16th April 1863

No drill today or dress parade. Wrote a letter home.

Friday 17th April 1863

Had orders to give up all clothes we didn't need to Quatermaster. Packed 6 days rations in our knapsacks.

Saturday 18th April 1863

Drilled in the forenoon Wm. phe(?) came to visit us in the morning. Some of the boys went out hunting.

Sunday 19th April 1863

Had orders to take down the wedge tents and deliver them to the Quartermaster. It cominced raining in the forenoon and rained all day.

 Monday 20th April 1863

No drill today, went on dress parade. Weather was cold and the wind blew hard. Had orders to be ready for inspection tomorrow.

Tuesday 21st April

Was inspected in the forenoon by one of Gen. Greens Staff officers in the afternoon. Wrote a letter home.

Wednesday 22 April 1863

Thursday 23rd April 1863

Commenced raining last night and rained until noon today. Had no drills, dress parades or roll calls. Received a letter from home.

Friday 24th April 1863

It rained hard all day. No drills or dress parade. Went to the Grist Mill and got some meal. Wrote a letter home.

Saturday 25th April 1863

The Regiment expected to get paid today so no drill or dress parade but the paymaster didn't make an appearance. Wrote to Coz.

Sunday 26th April 1863

Had an inspection of arms. Received orders to march tomorrow.

 Monday 27th April 1863

Got ready to march at daylight. Started at 10. Marched 10 miles and encamped for the night. We marched about 6 miles from Stafford Court House.

Tuesday 28th April 1863

Started at daybreak without any breakfast. We marched about 18 miles and encamped. It rained all day. We had a hard march.

Wednesday 29th April 1863

Got up at 5, got our breakfast and started at 6. Got to Kelly Ford at 9 AM. Crossed over and got to Rapidan at dark. Crossed over and encamped one mile from the river.

Thursday 30th April 1863

It rained all night, started at 7. Our company was rear guard behind the Brigade. Marched about 12 miles and marched up into the woods in line of battle and encamped for the night at about 4 PM.
