Baltimore, Md. October 9, 1863 Dear Parents; As we have got to stay in Baltimore all day, I thought I would write and let you know how we got along on the journey. We got to Albany at seven and took the boat for New York. The boat ran aground a little ways below Albany and we didn't get off until about one o'clock. We got to New York at 10 and as the cars didn't leave for Baltimore until 7:30, we went to Barnum's Museum to see the sights. I saw Able and Eliza there. Able is on his way to Oswego and will get to Syracuse tomorrow. He said he would stop and see you before going on to Oswego. We got to Baltimore at 6 this morning and was going this morning at 8 but we had to get a pass from the Provost Marshal, and as his office wasn't open until 9 we would be too late for the train. I guess we will have to stay right here until 5 this afternoon. We will get to parole camp about 7 this evening. We are to stop at a hotel close by the depot and as I havn't anything else to do I thought I would write you a short epistle. Oliver |
