Bolivar Heights, Va

December 9,1862

Dear Parents;

Orsen Coville came up and told me that my box had come.......how we wish we could stay on Bolivar Heights a few days longer and live off the fat of old Onondaga. As it was not to be we have just ate up the mince pies and cookies etc., etc. We will pack up our haversacks with the butter and honey and the quartermaster will carry it for us. The bed quilts we will try to carry somehow. We won't throw anything away if we can help it. We are busy packing up. Our haversacks are full enough to last us for a weeks march so its for sure we will not starve to death on the march.

Yours in haste,

Oliver
