Camp Convalescent, Va.

June 5, 1863

Dear Parents;

.............There isn't any news to write about from this camp. Everything goes on about the same day after day. The paroled prisoners have to work on the highway. They are making a road through the camp. They detail so many men from each barracks each day so that every man works every 3rd day. I don't think any one of them are overworked. One man working at home would do the work of ten of them. They are the laziest of people that I have ever seen and not one of them would hurt himself working. They thought they came here to fight and not to dig. Here I agree with them. I havn't any more to write so I will quit.

Oliver
